The Business of Acting Intensive Workshop

This is a comprehensive and highly personalized course with the goal of aiding beginning and intermediate professional actors in gaining clarity on and activating the tools necessary to launch –and manage—a career in film and television. It includes instruction in creating polished marketing materials; understanding the talent agent relationship and obtaining representation; managing the terrain of local and regional casting companies; print, social media and online resources—what content/acting reels you should have up as well as where to find opportunities; choosing a good headshot photographer; Networking to gain an edge without abusing your contacts, successful self-taping audition techniques, getting an agent & manager, understanding union and non-union contracts, reading casting breakdowns, what to spend money on as an actor, what qualifies as a tax write-off and whether or not you should do that local play or start a podcast!

What to Know: This class meets on a Saturday June 26, 2025 from 10 AM-7 PM, with an hour break midday. There is also a follow-up zoom call with the instructor two weeks later to check-in on progress, ask clarifying questions etc. Before your first class, you will be sent an extensive survey to fill out and return prior to the meeting. Please take your time and give some extra thought to details when completing the assignment. This will act as the basis for the building of a 5-year Career Plan complete with steps, strategies, goal markers, advice and loads of resources. In other words, this class will have “homework”.
